TOKIO CONFIDENTIAL Plays Atlantic Theatre, 2/5 -2/19

Tokio Confidential, a new musical with words and music by Eric Schorr, will play Atlantic Theater Stage 2 beginning February 5th at 7:00pm for a run through February 19th, it was announced today.

About the show: "Japan. 1879. Isabella Archer, a young American war widow crosses an ocean in search of a lost love—and is about to cross a line from which she can never return. It’s a journey across the boundaries between pleasure and pain, art and artifice, the secrets of the flesh and the sins of the heart. When Isabella falls in love with a renowned Japanese tattoo artist, she enters a world of extreme beauty, becoming an object of unexpected desire—in a realm of unspeakable danger."

Directed by Johanna McKeon (Associate director, American Idiot) Tokio Confidential has choreography by Tricia Brouk, musical direction by Mark Hartman, set design by David M. Barber, costume design by Jacob A. Climer, lighting design by Joel E. Silver, projection design by Darrel Maloney, sound design by Carl Casella and orchestrations by Zak Sandler.

The cast of Tokio Confidential includes: Jeff Kready (Billy Elliot), Austin Ku (The King and I), Mel Maghuyop (Miss Saigon), Benjamin McHugh (Mamma Mia!), Manna Nichols (The King and I), Mike O'Carroll (Mary Poppins), and Jill Paice (Curtains).

Tickets for Tokio Confidential are $45. Tokio Confidential runs from February 5th – February 19th and plays Wednesday – Saturday at 8pm with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm. Eric Schorr (Book, Music and Lyrics) composed the score for Frog Kiss (New York Musical Theater Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, winner of The Global Search for New Musicals). Other credits include: music and lyrics for Young Tom Edison, commissioned by Theatreworks/USA (Town Hall and Promenade Theater in NYC, Kennedy Center, national tour), CD recorded by Original Cast Records; music and lyrics for Theatreworks/USA’s The Civil War: The South Carolina Black Regiment (Town Hall, national tour); music for Howard Crabtree’s Whoop Dee Doo! (Drama-Desk Award, Actor’s Playhouse, NYC, CD on RCA Victor).TV credits: music and lyrics for Discovery Kids; music for Sesame Street. Eric was also commissioned to write the official Fanfare and Processional Music for The Gay Games, originally performed in Yankee Stadium. Vocal arrangements: The Cider House Rules (Atlantic Theatre Company, Mark Taper Forum, Seattle Repertory Theatre); Wendy Wasserstein’s Uncommon Women & Others (Second Stage) and The Sisters Rosensweig (Broadway). Education: New England Conservatory, Yale and Harvard Universities. Grants and Fellowships: Opera-Musical Theater Grant, National Endowment for the Arts; Japan-United States Arts Program Fellowship, Asian Cultural Council; Anna Sosenko Assist Trust. Numerous awards from ASCAP. 

Johanna McKeon (Director) Johanna is Associate Director of Green Day's American Idiot (National Tour and Broadway). Directing credits include Anne Washburn's I Have Loved Strangers (Clubbed Thumb), Comedy of Errors & Schmoozy Togetherness (Williamstown Theatre Festival), The Rise and Fall of Annie Hall (Vineyard Playhouse), Semi-Permanent (2007 NY Fringe Festival prize for Outstanding Solo Show), Fiesta Cabana, The Tanks Break, Functional Drunk (The Ontological-Hysteric Theater), The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, Cymbeline (Vineyard Playhouse), A Hatful of Rain (ITS Festival Warsaw, Poland). Associate Director: Grey Gardens (Broadway). Assistant Director: Rent (National Tour). Johanna has recently directed the following musical development workshops: Rosie! (Music and lyrics by Larry Gatlin), Biederman's Match (Book by Beau Willimon), Artaria (Book and Music by Raven Kane), and Eve's Turn (Tim Childs Theatrical). Guest Faculty: Bard College. Fellowships: Drama League, Boris Sagal, and Fulbright. MFA: University of Texas at Austin.
