59E59 Theaters Presents GHOST LIGHT, Previews 10/14

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) welcomes Immediate Theatre Company and Monarch Theater with the NY premiere of GHOST LIGHT, written by Desi Moreno-Penson and directed by José Zayas. GHOST LIGHT begins previews on Wednesday, October 14 for a limited engagement through Saturday, October 31. Press Opening is Sunday, October 18 at 3:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday at 7:30 PM, Wednesday - Saturday at 8:30 PM and Sunday at 3:30 PM. The regular ticket price is $18 ($12.60 for 59E59 Members). A couple arrives at a motel room for an afternoon of clandestine sex. Their tryst is interrupted by a security guard with alarming news about the room they're in. A vicious and violent cat-and-mouse game ensues as they rush to uncover the truth behind a horrifying urban legend. The perfect play to usher in Halloween!

GHOST LIGHT features Kate Benson (Mrs. Farnsworth at The Flea), Bryant Mason (Kissing Fidel at INTAR) and Hugh Sinclair (Strom Thurmond is not a Racist at The Brick). The design team includes Jason Sims (sets), Evan Purcell (lights), Carla Bellisio (costumes), David Margolin Lawson (sound) and Alex Koch (multimedia).

Desi Moreno-Penson (playwright) is a playwright based in New York City. Her work has been developed and/or produced at such venues as Urban Stages, New Georges (affiliated artist), The Cherry Lane, Classical Theatre of Harlem, Henry Street Settlement, Perishable Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Intar, Repertorio Espanol, The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, Jean Cocteau Repertory, The Nuyorican Poet's Café, Studio Arena Theater, The Royal Court Theatre in London, among others. She is a finalist for the 2007 Princess Grace Award for emerging artists, and a recipient of both the 2003 Wilson Lehr Award, and the 2002 Louis Delgado Jr. Award for Playwriting, as well as a three-time grant recipient of the BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Fellowships for both playwriting as well as live performance. Her short plays include Lazarus Disposed, Spirit Sex and A Latina Prepares. Full-length plays include Screwing Rachel, 3 to a Session: A Monster's Tale, Devil Land and Ghost Light. Devil Land premiered at the 2007 Summer Play Festival in New York produced by Arielle Tepper Madover and will be published by Broadway Play Publishing. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild and holds a Masters Degree in Dramaturgy and Theatre Criticism from Brooklyn College where she received the prestigious Samuel Levenson Memorial Scholarship for academic and creative achievement. José Zayas (director) is is Co-founder and Artistic Director of The Immediate Theater Company. Projects include: The House of the Spirits by Caridad Svich (Spanish Repertory, HOLA awards for best production and directed), Babes in Toyland by Michael Levinton and starring David Greenspan (ICE Factory), She of the Voice by Eliza Bent (Underground Zero Festival), Babyhead by David Myers (LAByrinth), Nowhere on the Border by Carlos Lacamara (Winner Best Director, Premios SIN LIMITE, 5 ACE Awards, 4 HOLA Awards), Just Don't Touch Me, Amigo by Fernando Gambaroni (2009 Fringe Festival), Madre: El Drama Padre by Enrique Jardiel Poncela (2 ACE Awards), Southern Promises by Thomas Bradshaw (PS122), Moonlight Mother By Kimberly Megna (Access Theater), Tell Me We Can by Zakiyyah Alexander (Access Theater), The Story of America by Becky Yamamoto (Ars Nova), Okay by Taylor Mac (Ensemble Studio Theatre), The Wasps and Tecmessa by Ken Urban (Target Margin), Strom Thurmond is Not a Racist by Thomas Bradshaw (Brick Theater, 4 New York Innovative Theater Award Nominations), Devil Land by Desi Moreno-Penson (Summer Play Festival/Cherry Lane Theatre), Crowns by ReGina Taylor (Virginia Stage Company), 50 Stage Pageant (Clubbed Thumb). In 2006, he was the Co-producer of INTAR'S New Works Theater Lab. He was the 2008 Marathon Literary Manager and a Resident Director at Ensemble Studio Theater and was one of NYTheatre.com's 2007 People of the Year. Drama League Fellow, Lincoln Center Director's Lab, Phil Killian Fellowship, Kenneth Frankel Fellowship, John Pasquin Fellowship, Van Lier Fellowship, Soho Rep Writer/Director's Lab. He will be a participant of the 2009-2011 NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Theater Directors. Originally from Puerto Rico, he holds a B.A. from Harvard University and an M.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University.
