Atlantic Theatre to Kick Off Strand Series with THE LYING LESSON's Craig Lucas and Pam MacKinnon, 2/11

Atlantic-Theatre-Company-Announces-Strand-Series-20010101

Atlantic Theater Company has announced The Strand Series, a new partnership with the legendary Strand Book Store. Presented with each Atlantic Mainstage production, the conversation series expands the discussion between Atlantic's playwrights, directors, actors and other artists.

The upcoming installment will be held on Monday, February 11 at 7pm and feature playwright Craig Lucas and director Pam MacKinnon of The Lying Lesson, which begins previews at Atlantic's Linda Gross Theater on February 20. They will be joined by Atlantic's Associate Artistic Director, Christian Parker, to discuss their respective work and their collaboration on The Lying Lesson.

The Strand Series: Craig Lucas & Pam MacKinnon In Conversation will take place on Monday, February 11 at 7pm at The Strand Book Store, 828 Broadway at 12th Street in the Rare Books Room. Atlantic Member Admission: $5 Strand gift card. General Admission: $10 Strand gift card. RSVP to membership@atlantictheater.org or 212.645.1242.

Past installments of The Strand Series have included discussions between Atlantic artists Simon Stephens and Annie Baker, and WHAT RHYMES WITH AMERICA's Melissa James Gibson, Daniel Aukin and Chris Bauer (click here to watch video of the latter discussion).

Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Carol Kane (Wicked, "Taxi") and actress Mickey Sumner (Frances Ha, Showtime's "The Borgias") star in the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Craig Lucas's new comedy The Lying Lesson, directed by Tony Award nominated director Pam MacKinnon (Clybourne Park, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?).

THE LYING LESSON will open Wednesday, March 13 and play a limited engagement through Sunday, March 31 off-Broadway at Atlantic's Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).

In a remote seaside village in Maine, a legendary film star (Kane) shows up to buy the home of an elderly couple. When she encounters a young local woman (Sumner) who appears never to have heard of her, "Ruth" stakes a claim on her distant past, and plays a relentless game of cat and mouse with her new "assistant." In this hilarious and unsettling comic thriller, Craig Lucas, celebrated author of Prelude to a Kiss, Reckless and The Light in the Piazza, twists and turns the audience around essential questions about memory, identity and truth-telling.

The design team for The Lying Lesson will feature scenic design by Neil Patel, costume design by Ilona Somogyi, lighting design by Russell H. Champa and original music and sound design by Broken Chord.

Atlantic Theater Company AT THE LINDA GROSS THEATER is located at 336 West 20th Street (between 8th & 9th Avenues). Performances: Tuesday-Saturday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm, Sunday at 3pm and Sunday at 7pm.

All tickets are $70.00 and available by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200 (www.ticketcentral.com) or at the Atlantic Stage 2 box office at 330 West 16th Street.
