Peter Sellers was celebrated for his ability to transform himself completely into his characters-from Chief Inspector Clouseau to Doctor Strangelove-but who was he and what was the personal cost of his comic genius? Marking the 30th anniversary of Sellers' death, Carl Caulfield's poignant comedy is an endearing portrait of one of the 20th Century's most iconic, admired and adored actor/comedians. BEING SELLERS comes to Brits Off Broadway direct from its run at London's new Off West End venue, the Waterloo East Theatre (November 2 - 19).

Carl Caulfield (playwright) has spent his life in the theater as playwright, director, dramaturg, and actor. For 20 years, he lived in Australia where he was a Lecturer in Drama at the University of Newcastle and was a co-director; with his wife Felicity Biggins, of Stray Dogs Theatre Company. He recently returned to the UK and is now Senior Lecturer in Dramatic Scriptwriting at Edge Hill University. His plays include: Indecent Obsessions, Dante's Dream, Human Resources, The True Phoenix, The Caper, Shakespeare's Fools and The Mystery of Roger Mullaney which was recently published by Macmillan. His new play, 2039, a dystopian thriller, will be produced by Tantrum Youth Theatre in Newcastle in November. In July 2007, Carl was a guest playwright at the prestigious Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Connecticut where he also mentored young professionals in Playwriting and Direction. He was also a guest playwright/dramaturg of the Kennedy Center American Theatre College Festival (KCACTF) in North Carolina, Greensboro in February 2008. Being Sellers was first produced in 1998 by Civic Theatre Newcastle before going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and then transferring to Man In The Moon Theatre, London. Carl is delighted that David Boyle reprised the play at Waterloo East Theatre London and now has the opportunity to play it again at Brits Off Broadway.

For Brits Off Broadway at 59E59 Theaters Simon Green (director) directed Cooking For Kings (2006 & 2004), Beau Brummel, Fascinating Aïda in Absolutely Fascinating (also at the Kirk Theater - Drama Desk nomination) and was the consulting director for The Hired Man. Other directing credits include: An Ideal Husband (English Theatre Frankfurt); at Cadogan Hall, Sing For Your Supper, Good Thing Going - A Sondheim Celebration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and A Swell Party; at Salisbury Playhouse, Let's Face The Music And Dance, The Way You Look Tonight and later this year With A Song In My Heart. In the West End he was the associate director of Auntie and Me starring Alan Davies and Margaret Tyzack (Wyndham's). Other plays include Split (Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough), Time Of My Life (Bristol Old Vic) and for Cameron Macintosh he was the resident director of Phantom of the Opera (Manchester Opera House). As an actor Simon's many London and West End appearances include Jules in Sunday in the Park With George, (Menier Chocolate Factory and Wyndham's), Torasso in Passion (Queen's) and Young Ben in Follies (Shaftesbury), The Knight of the Burning Pestle (Barbican), Lumiere in Disney's Beauty and the Beast (Dominion), La Cenerentola (Drill Hall), March of the Falsettos (Albery), Elegies (Criterion), Coriolanus (Young Vic) Elmer Gantry (Gate), The Scarlet Pimpernel (Her Majesty's), Lady Be Good (Regent's Park and national tour), The Boyfriend (Old Vic & Albery), for the RSC The Wizard of Oz (Stratford and Barbican) and Showboat (Palladium).
