Darren Goldstein Joins THE MADRID, 2/28

Darren-Goldstein-Joins-THE-MADRID-228-20010101

Darren Goldstein (Bloody, Bloody, Andrew Jackson; Abigail's Party) will join the cast of Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of The Madrid in the role of Danny starting Thursday, February 28.

Goldstein replaces Christopher Evan Welch who is leaving the production due to a professional commitment.

THE MADRID, the new play by Liz Flahive, directed by Leigh Silverman, is now in previews at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street) and will open on Tuesday, February 26.

In addition to Goldstein, The Madrid also stars Seth Clayton (MTC debut), Tony Award nominee John Ellison Conlee (Murder Ballad at MTC), Four-time Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie," The House of Blue Leaves, "The Sopranos"), Brooke Ashley Laine (New York debut), two-time Obie Award winner Heidi Schreck (Circle Mirror Transformation), Phoebe Strole (Spring Awakening), and two-time Tony Award winner Frances Sternhagen (The Heiress).

Four-time Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie," The House of Blue Leaves, "The Sopranos") returns to the New York stage in the world premiere of The Madrid by Liz Flahive.

Falco stars as Martha, a kindergarten teacher with a life many would want: a loving husband (Conlee), a devoted daughter (Strole). But when she leaves it all behind, it's up to her daughter Sarah to pick up the pieces. Two-time Obie winner, Leigh Silverman directs this hilarious and heartbreaking story about motherhood, freedom, and trying to see the people in your family as they really are.

THE MADRID was commissioned through the Bank of America New American Play Program.

The creative team for The Madrid includes: David Zinn (scenic design), Emily Rebholz (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Jill BC Du Boff (sound design), and Tom Kitt (original music).

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Lynne Meadow and Executive Producer Barry Grove, MTC has become one of the country's most prominent and prestigious theatre companies.
