Garrett Long Set for World Premiere of THINGS AS THEY ARE at NYMTF 9/27-10/6

DRAMA_DESK_NOMINATED_GARRETT_LONG_TO_PLAY_DOROTHEA_LANGE_20010101

A Team Events Management, LLC is proud to announce that Drama Desk and Drama League nominated actress Garrett Long will play Dorothea Lange in the world premiere of THINGS AS THEY ARE, a new musical by Jonathan Comisar and John Dietrich based on the life of the renowned photojournalist at the 2010 New York Musical Theatre Festival where it will begin performances on September 27th at the Theater at St. Clement's (423 West 46th Street New York, NY). The production will be directed by Emmy, Drama Desk, and MAC Award nominated actress / director, Donna Drake.

Selected as one of five finalists for the prestigious Fred Ebb Foundation Award, THINGS AS THEY ARE is a sweeping portrait of influential American documentary photographer Dorothea Lange and is a musical examination of an artist's journey as complex as the history captured in her work. Best known as the photographer behind the iconic Depression Era image "Migrant Mother," Dorothea fights for the lives of the people she photographs, while constantly torn between the demanding roles of wife, mother, and artist. A woman ahead of her time, living during a tumultuous period in American history, will her relentless devotion to her subjects undermine all hope of keeping her world in balance?

Garrett Long takes on the role of Dorothea Lange after completing a 2 ½ year run in SOUTH PACIFIC at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre in Lincoln Center. Prior to that, she won wide acclaim and Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for her portrayal of Percy Talbott in the musical version of the film THE SPITFIRE GRILL at Playwrights Horizons. Garrett will be joined on stage in THINGS AS THEY ARE by David Andrew Anderson, Sarah Dacey Charles, Michael Deleget, Will Erat, Kerry Flanagan, Bob Knapp, Zach Landes, Kelvin Moon Loh, Adam MacDonald, Jennifer McCabe, Sam Smithyman, Matthew Charles Thompson, David Toombs, Laura Ware, Sandy York,
One of the busiest directors both in New York and regionally, Donna Drake's Broadway directing credits include: NOTHING LIKE A DAME (benefit) and ROMANCE IN THE DARK. Among her numerous Off-Broadway directing credits are NEWSICAL, BOOBS! THE MUSICAL!, CHRISTMAS WITH THE CRAWFORDS, ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, ANN-MARGARET and the current family hit John Tartaglia'S IMAGINOCEAN. She served as choreographer for two seasons of the Disney Channels Emmy nominated JOHNNY AND THE SPRITES. As a performer she has appeared in the Broadway original casts of A CHORUS LINE, WOMAN OF THE YEAR, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS, THE 1940'S RADIO HOUR and 5, 6, 7, 8....DANCE!. Her work is the recipient of four Drama Desk nominations, a MAC Award nomination, an Emmy nomination, a Nightlife nomination, and a Theatre World Award.

Performance dates: Monday, Sep 27th, at 8:00 pm, Tuesday, Sep 28th, at 9:00 pm, Friday, Oct 1st, at 1:00 pm ,Saturday, Oct 2nd, at 5:00 pm,Saturday, Oct 2nd, at 9:00 pm and Wednesday, Oct 6th, 2010 at 9:00 pm. Visit http://thingsastheyare.net/ for sound clips, images and more information.
