On today's episode of THE VIEW, host Whoopi Goldberg asked Catherine Zeta-Jones if she would like to return to Broadway, to which she replied "I'd love to." The Tony-winning star then revealed that she is at work with director Steven Soderbergh on a "idea of a rock opera based on CLEOPATRA", that was originally intended as a rock and roll musical movie, that's now being thought of as "perfect" for Broadway. Does ROMAN HOLIDAY Have A Future Home on Broadway?

Currently onstage at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis is the period musical spectacular Roman Holiday. Based on the iconic film, the show features the music of Cole Porter, including hits like "Easy to Love," "Begin the Beguine," "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye" and "Riding High", in addition to rarely heard gems that fit perfectly into the story. The production began preview performances on June 9 and opens tonight, June 15. The run is scheduled to continue through August 19 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage. Bobby Steggert, Corbin Reid, et al. to Lead THE NIGHTINGALE at La Jolla Playhouse; Full Cast Announced!

La Jolla Playhouse today announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming musical The Nightingale, by the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening: Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music). Directed by Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (33 Variations, I Am My Own Wife), the production runs July 10 – August 5, 2012 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. The Nightingale is presented as part of The Playhouse's Page To Stage Play Development Program. (more...)

Happy Birthday, Neil Patrick Harris! A veteran of the theater, Harris recently tackled the role of Bobby in the New York Philharmonic's production of Stephen Sondheim's "Company" at Lincoln Center. Harris made his Broadway debut in the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Proof," and subsequently starred on the Great White Way as the Emcee in "Cabaret," and as The Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald in the Tony Award-winning production of "Assassins." His additional theater credits include roles in "All My Sons," "Tick, Tick... Boom," "The Paris Letter," "Sweeney Todd," "Rent" and "Romeo and Juliet." Harris made his theatrical directorial debut with "I Am Grock" at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. Additionally, he directed a production of Jonathan Larson's "Rent" at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and more recently he helmed a production of "The Expert at the Card Table" at the Broad Stage Theater.
