For the first time in the history of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce held a live press announcement in order to proclaim the 2013 Hollywood Walk of Famers. This elite group of entertainment professionals is skilled in the categories of Motion Pictures, Television, Radio, Recording and Live Theatre/Live Performance. Actress and recent Walk of Fame recipient Marg Helgenberger will announce the new selections to the media on Friday, June 22, at noon in the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel's Oscar Room at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard. These individuals were chosen from among hundreds of nominations at a meeting held on June 15, 2012 and ratified by the Hollywood Chamber's Board of Directors. Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce hosted the event and David Green, Chairman of the Walk of Fame selection committee, who participated in this historic event stated "The Walk of Fame committee is proud to announce next year's honorees whose additions to the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame will bring everlasting memories of their star power, talent, and popularity to the millions who visit Hollywood each year and which will shine even more light on the entertainment capital of the world." Soon to take their last Broadway bows are PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT and GODSPELL, which close on Sunday, June 24. They'll be followed soon by JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, ANYTHING GOES, and SISTER ACT, which close July 1, August 5, and August 26 respectively. (more...)

Last February, ITV1 and Andrew Lloyd Webber announced a new reality competition show- SUPERSTAR, described as "a brand new show that will give the British public the chance to choose the country's next major rock star." According to an Equity casting notice, Kathie Lee Gifford, David Friedman and David Pomeranz new musical, THE AIMEE PROJECT will open on Broadway sometime this fall at a theater to be announced. According to the notice, David Armstrong will helm, alongside Joel Fram as the musical director and Lorin Latarro as the choreographer. Rehearsals are listed as beginning in September of 2012. 16) STAGE TUBE: On This Day 6/22- MAN OF LA MANCHA

Today in 1972, the first Broadway revival of Man of La Mancha opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, where it ran for 140 performances. Man of La Mancha is a musical with a book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh. It is adapted from Wasserman's non-musical 1959 teleplay I, Don Quixote, which was in turn inspired by Miguel de Cervantes's seventeenth century masterpiece Don Quixote. It tells the story of the "mad" knight, Don Quixote, as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition.The original 1965 Broadway production ran for 2,328 performances and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The musical has been revived four times on Broadway, becoming one of the most enduring works of musical theatre. (more...)
