According to Perez Hilton, EVITA star Ricky Martin is staying in New York to continue his Broadway career. "Do I want to come back to Broadway? I would love to do Broadway the rest of my life! Because it's challenging, because it makes me grow as an actor, as an entertainer, as an artist, and that's what I need, that's what I'm hooked on," Martin told reporters. Tony Award-nominee Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde, Les Miserables), Helen Hayes Award-winner Natascia Diaz (Man of La Mancha, Seussical, The Capeman, Carnival) and Drew Sarich (Les Miserables, Lestat, starring in the upcoming Broadway-bound production of Rocky the Musical in Europe) will star in the July 30th 7:30pm benefit concert of the Benny Andersson, Tim Rice and Bjorn Ulvaeus musical CHESS for The Actor's Fund. This special CHESS "In Concept" Concert will take place at LaGuardia Arts at Lincoln Center, and the stripped down all through-sung concert-version will focus on the music, lyrics and characters, emulating the original 1984 concept album and incorporating virtually all of the original London score. 5) STAGE TUBE: On This Day 7/21- GUYS AND DOLLS

Today in 1976, Guys and Dolls opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 239 performances. Guys and Dolls is a musical with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure", two short stories by Damon Runyon, and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably "Pick the Winner". Premiering on Broadway in 1950, the original production ran for 1200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several Broadway revivals as well as West End productions. (more...)

7) Tony Shalhoub, Debra Monk and More Star in Reading of James Lapine's Adaptation of Moss Hart's ACT ONE

According to its website, the Vineyard Arts Project just held two "in-progress" readings on July 18 and 20 of Moss Hart's Act One, adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and director James Lapine and commissioned by the Lincoln Center Theater. The readings starred Tony Shalhoub ("Monk", Lend Me a Tenor), Debra Monk (Steel Pier, Redwood Curtain), Chuck Cooper (The Life, Caroline, or Change) and David Turner (On A Clear Day You Can See Forever).
