NBC is partnering with the acclaimed "Smash" producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (film versions of "Chicago" and "Hairspray") to present a live broadcast of "The Sound of Music," based on the original Broadway musical, it was announced today by Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment.

Stark Sands & Billy Porter to Lead Broadway Bound KINKY BOOTS - Full Cast Announced!

Producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig have announced the full cast and creative team for the World Premiere of Kinky Boots, the new musical that brings together four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy® Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Music & Lyrics). Directed and choreographed by Tony® Award-winner Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots will play the Bank of America Theatre (18 West Monroe Street, Chicago, IL) beginning October 2 through November 4, 2012, in advance of a Broadway opening.

Dance, Theatre, Music, Art Are Most Successful Kickstarter Projects

The "crowd fundraising" site Kickstarter has just released is site statistics: 25,407 projects have been funded successfully on Kickstarter - and of those, 7,493 were music-related, 6,759 were film and video projects, 2,566 were art, and 1,921 were theater, amounting to almost three-quarters of all successful campaigns and totalling to over $100 million. Happy Birthday David Alan Grier! Grier began his professional career on Broadway as Jackie Robinson in The First, for which he earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and won the Theatre World Award. He then joined the cast of Dreamgirls before going on to star opposite Denzel Washington in A Soldier's Play, for which both actors reprised their roles in the film adaptation titled A Soldier's Story. Recently was seen in David Mamet's Race on Broadway and received his second Tony Award nomination. He is currently starring on Broadway in Porgy and Bess. (more...)
