The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) announced today that it will extend Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s beloved musical INTO THE WOODS one final week through Saturday, September 1. 7) STAGE TUBE: Opening Night Highlights - THE KING AND I at The Muny!

The Muny presents the seventh and final show of its 94th season, The King and I, now through August 12, directed by Rob Ruggiero and choreographed by Ralph Perkins. Kevin Gray, playing The King of Siam, returns to The Muny after previously playing the Engineer in Miss Saigon (2001). Making her Muny debut as Anna Leonowens is Laura Michelle Kelly. 8) ELF to Return to Broadway This Winter; to Play Al Hirschfeld Theater

9) Funeral Arrangements Announced for Marvin Hamlisch

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this week, composer Marvin Hamlisch passed away Monday evening at 68 years old following a brief illness. Now according to the New York Times, funeral services have been announced. Visitation periods will take place at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel (1076 Madison Avenue, at 81st Street) on Sunday and Monday, 2-5 and 7-9. The funeral will take place 11am on Tuesday at Temple Emanu-El (1 East 65th Street). Universal Pictures Stage Productions/ Glenn Ross, Beacon Communications/ Armyan Bernstein and Charlie Lyons and Executive Producers Kristin Caskey and Mike Isaacson have announced a 15-week extension to the limited engagement of Bring It On: The Musical at Broadway’s St. James Theatre (246 W. 44thStreet). The show, which was scheduled to close on Sunday, October 7, 2012, will now play its final performance on Sunday, January 20, 2013. (more...)

According to Indiewire, Spike Lee wants to make a film adaptation of the George Gershwin musical Porgy and Bess and has confirmed that negotiations are "still in the works."
