Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters will host the fourteenth annual BROADWAY BARKS!, a star-studded dog and cat adoption event benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. Produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, sponsored by the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and with additional sponsorship by the New York Times, the event will take place on Saturday, July 14 in Shubert Alley, the heart of the Broadway Theater District (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenues). The festivities begin at 3:30 p.m.; celebrity presentations of pets from animal shelters citywide will take place between 5-6:30 p.m. (more...)

Forbidden Broadway Is 'Alive & Kicking'; Returns to NYC this Fall with New Edition; Previews Begin July 24th

After a three-year absence, Gerard Alessandrini's Forbidden Broadway returns to the 47th Street Theatre with a brand new edition, Forbidden Broadway: ALIVE AND KICKING. The show, which opens Thursday, September 6, will run for a limited engagement through January 6, 2013. Previews begin on July 24th. This production will mark Forbidden Broadway's 30th Anniversary, as well as its 21st edition. (more...)

Diane Paulus-Helmed PIPPIN Finds Backers for Broadway Run?

According to the New York Times, Diane Paulus' upcoming production of Pippin might be heading to Broadway after it plays Cambridge's American Repertory Theater in December. Patrick Healy writes that producers Barry and Fran Weissler are looking into backing the show for a Broadway run. A spokesman told NYT: "It's a project that Barry and Fran are very interested in. They're huge fans of Diane. Right now they're just supporting the project." (more...)

Jeremy Kushnier (Jesus Christ Superstar, Footloose), Eden Espinosa (Wicked, Brooklyn), Rachel York (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Victor/Victoria) and Jack Noseworthy (A Chorus Line, Sweet Smell of Success) lead the cast of New York Musical Theater Festival's "Stealing Time," the latest work of writers/composers Tor Hyams and Lisa Neubauer. "Stealing Time" will play as a special event in the 2012 New York Musical Theater Festival at the PTC Performance Space. "Stealing Time" is the second NYMF project for Hyams coming off the success of "Greenwood" starring Andrea McArdle in the 2011 New York Musical Theater Festival. (more...)

VENUS IN FUR, the critically acclaimed play by Tony Award nominee David Ives, directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie, ended its triumphant run on Sunday at the Lyceum Theatre. VENUS IN FUR has been licensed and is in negotiation to be produced in over 40 regional theatres across the US and Canada with plans underway for productions in 26 different countries. It has been translated into many languages including French, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, and German. In addition, plans for a London production are underway. (more...)

MCC Theater (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) today announced that Jon Bernthal (AMC's "The Walking Dead") and actor/playwright John Pollono will star in the New York Premiere of Small Engine Repair, by John Pollono, directed by Jo Bonney (Neil LaBute's The Break of Noon, Some Girl(s), Fat Pig). The production will be the third and final production of MCC's 2012-13 three-play mainstage season, which marks the company's 27th consecutive year producing and developing new work by today's most provocative and vibrant artists. ROCK OF AGES Movie Brings In $14.4 Million Opening Weekend

Adam Shankman's ROCK OF AGES has officially earned $14.4 million in its opening weekend, far behind the debuts of Hairspray (also Shankman) and Universal's Mamma Mia!, which opened with more than $25 million each.
