8) Bernadette Peters Set to Return to SMASH in Season 2!

As BroadwayWorld previously reported the second season of SMASH will include a growing list of high-profile guest stars, including the just-announced Nikki Blonsky of Hairspray, as well as Jesse L. Martin, Jeremy Jordan, Sean Hayes and Jennifer Hudson. Now according to Vulture, Bernadette Peters, who guest starred last season as Ivy's (Megan Hilty) mom, will return in season two. 9) STAGE TUBE: On This Day 9/25- EVITA

Today in 1979, Evita opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 1567 performances. Evita is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. It concentrates on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Peron, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Peron. The story follows Evita's early life, rise to power, charity work, and eventual death. Evita began as a rock opera concept album released in 1976. Its success led to productions in London's West End in 1978, and on Broadway a year later, both of which enjoyed considerable success. A major 1996 film of the musical starred Madonna and Antonio Banderas. In 2006, the musical was revived in London, and on Broadway in 2012. (more...)

20) STAGE TUBE: Kelli O'Hara and NYFOS's Steven Blier Voice Support for the FSH Society

On September 24th, pianist Steven Blier headlined a benefit concert at the New York Botanical Gardens to raise funds for FSH Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD). The most common form of muscular dystrophy, FSHD has left Blier unable to walk. Sharing the stage with him was his friend Kelli O'Hara, the multi Tony Award-nominated singer and actress who has entranced audiences in such Broadway hits as South Pacific, The Pajama Game and, currently, Nice Work If You Can Get It. At the benefit event, the pair captivated the crowd with Gershwin, Sondheim and other classics from the American songbook, but they also had an urgent message to deliver through a new video, which appears below.
