REBECCA, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne Du Maurier novel, has found its male and female leads: Jill Paice will play the role of "I" and Ryan Silverman the role of "Maxim de Winter." Audra McDonald Placed on Vocal Rest Through 7/3; Alicia Hall Moran Covers 'Bess' in PORGY & BESS

Producers of The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS, the 2012 Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Musical, announced today that Audra McDonald has been ordered on a period of complete vocal rest by her doctor through the end of the month. As a result of performing with a respiratory infection last week, her vocal cords have become inflamed to a point where she cannot sing. She is scheduled to return to the production on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. (more...)

Helen Mirren to Play The Queen on Broadway and West End in THE AUDIENCE?

Dame Helen Mirren is currently considering a role as Queen Elizabeth II in THE AUDIENCE, a play about the Queen's reign so far by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) in the West End this fall and on Broadway in spring 2013, according to the New York Post. Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) has been tipped to direct the play, which will humanise the Queen by mixing stories of her private and public lives. (more...)

Today in 2004, Thoroughly Modern Millie closed at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 903 performances. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan. Based on the 1967 film of the same name, it tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love - a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. The production subsequently won six 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Sutton Foster. (more...)

New performers have been added to the sold-out Pump Up The Volume concert at Joe's Pub on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 9:30pm. Just added to the performer lineup are Harris Doran (The Actors' Fund's Hair), Claybourne Elder (Bonnie & Clyde), Gideon Glick (Spring Awakening), and Caren Lyn Tackett (Hair). FREEZE FRAME: ANYTHING GOES Celebrates 500 Performances on Broadway!

Today, June 20, Roundabout Theatre's production of Anything Goes celebrated its 500th Broadway performance. This acclaimed production marks the second longest Broadway run in Roundabout's history, following its beloved revival of Cabaret. As previously announced, the show, which won the 2011 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, will shutter on August 5, 2012.
