LIBERTY A Monumental New Musical Hosts Public Schools Sing LIBERTY 125!

LIBERTY-A-Monumental-New-Musical-Hosts-Public-Schools-Sing-LIBERTY-125-20010101

In celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty, the Off-Broadway bound musical LIBERTY A Monumental New Musical announces the "Public Schools Sing LIBERTY 125!" contest. This exciting competition is open to all NYC public schools and offers a chance to be selected as the lucky group of students to perform the song "Huddled Masses," from LIBERTY, at the National Park Service celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty National Monument on October 28th, 2011 at the Statue on Liberty Island.

Additionally, a special celebrity guest star will join the winning group of students for the performance - celebrity guest to be announced at a later date.

The "Public Schools Sing LIBERTY 125!" contest is open to all New York City public school students - music educators and their official school choirs are encouraged to enter. Submission forms and guidelines can be found on the LIBERTY website at www.LibertyTheMusical.com/contests or for more information, please contact liberty@lavieproductions.com. The winning choir will be selected by a panel of judges on October 1st and announced at a later date.

"Huddled Masses" was performed by recording artist and Broadway actress Sasha Allen (HAIR) and the City Lights Youth Theatre at the re-opening of the Statue on July 4th, 2009.

LIBERTY tells the story of America's most famous immigrant who arrives from France in 1884 amid anti-foreigner fervor. With powerful political forces working against her and only a precious few on her side, Liberty ultimately wins over the people of the United States and takes her rightful place on the pedestal. LIBERTY serves as a theatrical reminder not only of what this country was meant to become, but how we have, in recent years, lost sight of the "Golden Door."

Directed by Igor Goldin, LIBERTY: A Monumental New Musical is produced by Theresa Wozunk, has book and lyrics by Dana Leslie Goldstein, music by Jon Goldstein, musical direction by Jeffrey Lodin, choreography by Jeffry Denman, set design by Josh Zangen, costume design by Olivera Gajic, lighting design by Paul Miller and with Executive Producer/General Management by R. Erin Craig/La Vie Productions.

After a recent performance at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum Gala, Former NYC Mayor Ed Koch proclaimed "Give me more LIBERTY! It's the story of our city, and our country, and I can't wait to see this show where it belongs - on a New York stage!"
