MCC's The Center Presents 'An Evening with Joe Mantello,' 2/8

The Center will present legendary director and actor Joe Mantello in An Evening with Mr. Joe Mantello this Monday, February 8, 2010. The evening will begin with a reception at 6:00 p.m. with the program starting at 7:00 p.m., moderated by New York Magazine Editor at-Large Jesse Green. Mr. Mantello will be joined by The Pride actor Ben Whishaw. For tickets and more information, visit www.gaycenter.org. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center is located at 208 West 13th Street in New York City.

Mr. Mantello's directing credits include Pal Joey, November, The Ritz, Blackbird, The Odd Couple, Glengarry GLen Ross (Tony nomination), Laugh Whore, Assassins (Tony Award), Wicked, Take Me Out (Tony Award), Design for Living, Terrence McNally and Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking for the San Francisco Opera, The Vagina Monologues, bash, Another American: Asking and Telling, Love! Valour! Compassion! (Tony nomination), Proposals, The Mineola Twins, Corpus Christi, Mizlansky/Zilinsky and Blue Window. Mr. Mantello also directed the film Love! Valour! Compassion! As an actor: Angels in America (Tony nomination) and The Baltimore Waltz. He is a recipient of Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Helen Hayes, Clarence Derwent, Obie and Joe A. Callaway awards. He is a member of Naked Angels and an associate artist at Roundabout Theatre Company.

MCC Theater (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, Artistic Directors; William Cantler, Associate Artistic Director; Blake West, Executive Director) presents the Premiere American Production of Alexi Kaye Campbell's The Pride, directed by Joe Mantello (Glengarry GLen Ross, Take Me Out). The production features actors Hugh Dancy (Adam, Journey's End), Adam James (Last Chance Harvey), Andrea Riseborough (Happy Go Lucky) and Ben Whishaw (Bright Star, Brideshead Revisited) in this all new production for MCC. Ms. Riseborough and Mr. Whishaw are making their New York stage debuts. Performances began at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on January 27 and continue through March 20, 2010. Opening night is set for Tuesday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m.

In The Pride, Oliver (Whishaw), Philip (Dancy) and Sylvia (Riseborough) are caught in a kind of erotic time warp. Their complex love triangle, replete with conflicting loyalties and passions, jumps from 1958 to the present and back in a maelstrom of fantasy, repression and rebellion in this innovative new drama. After taking London by storm last season in an Olivier Award-winning production at the Royal Court, The Pride now makes its American premiere at MCC Theater.

Performances are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 & 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 & 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available through www.ticketcentral.com or calling 212-279-4200.

Hugh Dancy, Andrea Riseborough and Ben Whishaw are appearing with the permission of Actors' Equity Association. MCC Theater gratefully acknowledges Actors' Equity Association for its assistance on this production.
