The cast of My Name is Asher Lev, Ari Brand, Mark Nelson, Ilana Levine, Naama Potok, and Jonathan Raviv come to 92YTribeca on Thursday, March 28 from 12-1pm for a conversation about this highly-praised new play based on the best-selling novel by Chaim Potok (author of The Chosen). The cast will also perform a few of their favorite excerpts from the show. Tickets for the Asher Lev conversation can be purchased online at www.92y.org.
Set in post-war Brooklyn, My Name is Asher Lev tells the coming- of-age story of a boy prodigy who must be an artist at any cost - against the will of family, community and tradition. It is the powerful telling of a young artist with a universal theme to follow our passion - against everything.
Directed by Gordon Edelstein (The Glass Menagerie), the production at The Westside Theatre (upstairs) features Ari Brand (Broadway Bound, directed by David Cromer), who plays Asher Lev in this breakout performance. My Name is Asher Lev also stars Mark Nelson (nine Broadway productions including After The Fall, The Invention of Love, A Few Good Men; Obie Award winner for Picasso at the Lapin Agile) and Ilana Levine (Wrong Mountain, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, Last Night of Ballyhoo, Jake's Women.)
The talk at 92YTribeca will be moderated by Adam Feldman. Adam covers theater and cabaret music for Time Out New York. He is president of the New York Drama Critics' Circle.
The distinguished creative team for My Name is Asher Lev includes set design by Eugene Lee (Wicked); lighting design by James F. Ingalls(Glengarry Glen Ross); costume design by Ilona Somogyi (Clybourne Park) and original music/sound design by John Gromada (Gore Vidal's The Best Man, Proof). My Name is Asher Lev is produced by Darren Bagert, Martin Massman, Ruth Hendel, Daryl Roth, Sharon Karmazin, Joan Raffe & Jhett Tolentino, HIGHBROW, Ted Snowdon and Jamie deRoy.
