N.O.M.A.D.S. and Adam Blanshay Present THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, Previews 1/21

N.O.M.A.D.S. and Adam Blanshay present the World Premiere of Daniel Mitura's new stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY with previews beginning January 21st prior to officially opening on January 25th at Theatre Row's Kirk Theatre (410 West 42nd Street) in Manhattan. Henning Hegland will direct.

In THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, the only published novel of the famed master of literacy - Oscar Wilde; newly adapted for the stage by Daniel Mitura, the young, impressionable, and stunningly beautiful Dorian Gray sells his soul for eternal youth. Convinced by the dangerously clever aristocrat Lord Henry Wotton that youth and pleasure are to be valued above all else, and supported by the devotion of the artist who painted the fatal portrait, Basil Hallward, Dorian Gray dives into a life of hedonistic abandon, falling in love with and then quickly abandoning young actress Sibyl Vane, and poisoning the lives of countless others, leading them down to darkness with his strange and dangerous charm. While his body is immune to the ravages of time and sin, his soul is not, and by the end Dorian is faced with the ultimate choice: does he save the picture, or save himself? Or have the two become inextricably linked?

Directed by Henning Hegland, the cast of THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY features Kaolin Bass, Christina Broccolini, Leif Huckman, Vayu O'Donnell, Wil Petre and Jade Rothman. Design team is Tania Bijlani (set design), Ciera Wells (costume design), Joe Novak (lighting design).

Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin on October 16, 1854. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford. After graduation, he moved to London to pursue a literary career. His works include: THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY (his only novel, written in 1891), LADY WINDERMERE'S FAN (1892), AN IDEAL HUSBAND (1895) and THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (1895).

Daniel Mitura is an actor, writer, and recent graduate of Columbia University (BA in Art History). He has written comedy sketches for the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (NYC), and the libretto to the musical PLAN B (music by Rebecca Greenstein). Other works include: LOCKER ROOM TALK (directed by Kristjan Thor) at the Cherry Lane Theater, and UNEXPECTEDLY DANCING IN BOISE (directed by Molly Braverman) at the Producer's Club Theater.

Adam Blanshay most recently produced Daniel MacIvor's HIS GREATNESS at the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival and NYC Fringe Encore Series. Additional producing credits include Alexander Pushkin's LITTLE TRAGEDIES (Baryshnikov Arts Center), Scott Nevins' ONE NIGHT STAND (New World Stages), Scott Nevins' RECE$IONI$TA &CELEBUTANT (US National Tours), and PIAZZA AFTER DARK (Centaur Theatre, Montreal). His directing credits include off-Broadway: PIAF: LOVE CONQUERS ALL (SoHo Playhouse), THE BLACK MONK (Theatre Row/Beckett Theatre), THE SECOND TOSCA (45th Street Theatre), CLEAN (Urban Stages), A WOMAN OF WILL (Daryl Roth Theatre). Opera: LA BOHEME, TOSCA (Regina Opera, Brooklyn, NY), LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Modus Opera, NYC), LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN, LE MÉDECIN MALGRÉ LUI (IVAI, Tel Aviv). Regional: Steve Galluccio's IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO (Centaur Theatre, Montreal), EVITA (Moyse Hall, McGill).

N.O.M.A.D.S. (New and Original Material Authored and Directed by Students) provides Columbia/Barnard undergraduates a unique space for the creative development of expressive, imaginative, and challenging new theater. Since 2003, N.O.M.A.D.S. has produced student-written dramas, comedies, musicals, multi-media, and inter-disciplinary works of only the most professional quality. Through each production, N.O.M.A.D.S. seeks to engage and attract progressive theater artists and new diverse audiences - both within Columbia, as well as in the wider New York theater world.
