NEWSical the Musical, the Off Broadway Alliance Award-Winning Best New Musical of 2011, opened its latest ever-evolving, completely unsanitizEd Mockery of the year’s biggest headlines, NEWSical the Musical: End of the World Edition, last night, February 1 at Theatre Row on West 42nd Street. NEWSical a high octane musical revue of all the most talked-about headlines of the day. Satirical spoofs of the most up-to-the-minute newsmakers and celebrities are added on a regular basis making NEWSical an ever-evolving mockery of all the news that’s fit to print.

From Occupy Wall Street to the 2012 Presidential Election and the national fight for marriage equality to the Mayan calendar, Ashton and Demi and the end of soaps, all the biggest stories of the year in pop culture and politics are given composer-lyricist Rick Crom’s signature skewering in the 90-minute revue.

NEWSical the Musical: End of the World Edition features Drama Desk nominee and Sirius Radio host Christine Pedi (Forbidden Broadway, Talk Radio), Christina Bianco (Drama Desk nominee, Forbidden Broadway), Michael West (Forbidden Broadway, When Pigs Fly), John Walton West (national tours of The Drowsy Chaperone and The Producers), Amy Griffin (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and Tommy Walker (Evil Dead).

Crom has received three Drama Desk nominations for his work on NEWSical. He has appeared on Broadway in Urinetown, Footloose and The Goodbye Girl and on FX’s critically-acclaimed series Louie starring comedian Louis C.K. NEWSical is directed by Mark Waldrop (When Pigs Fly, My Deah, Inventing Avi, Papermill Playhouse’s Gypsy).

Rounding out the creative team areEd Goldschneider (music director), Jason Courson (set designer), Josh Starr (lighting designer) and Scott Delacruz (stage manager).
