Playwrights Horizons Adds a Week to THE GREAT GOD PAN

Due to popular demand, Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced a second extension of its critically-acclaimed World Premiere of The Great God Pan, a new play by the heralded Obie Award-winning playwright Amy Herzog (After the Revolution at PH, 4000 Miles). Originally set to play a limited engagement through Sunday, December 30, the production originally extended to Sunday, January 6 and now extends to Sunday, January 13 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). This additional week represents the final extension possible for the production and includes a special Wednesday matinee on January 9 at 2:30 PM.

"Under the attentive direction of Carolyn Cantor" (Isherwood, The New York Times), The Great God Pan began previews Saturday, November 24 and had its official opening on Tuesday, December 18.

Charles Isherwood of The New York Times named The Great God Pan a Critics Pick, calling it "Haunting, deeply affecting and unfailingly honest. Amy Herzog is one of the bright theatrical lights of her generation. Not something I'll soon forget." Jesse Oxfeld of The New York Observer hailed the play as "Remarkable and revelatory! Whatever the ideal contemporary American drama is, it has to look a lot like The Great God Pan." Melissa Rose Bernardo of Entertainment Weekly pronounced it, "Captivating! Herzog's deepest, most mature writing to date." Jennifer Farrar of Associated Press called it "Beautifully conceived. Herzog sets up intimate and touching scenes, in which wordless moments reveal seismic epiphanies." Adam Feldman of Time Out-New York named it a Critics Pick, giving it FOUR STARS. Joe Dziemianowicz also gave it FOUR STARS, writing, "Amy Herzog is an exciting theatrical voice!" Jeremy Gerard of Bloomberg News gave the production FOUR STARS as well, calling it "Extraordinarily moving. Herzog is finely attuned to the conversational beats of a generation, always trenchant and heartbreaking. Every conversation shivers with emotional truth."

The "impeccable cast" (Isherwood, The New York Times) features Becky Ann Baker, Tony Award nominee and Obie Award winner Peter Friedman, Olivier Award nominee Sarah Goldberg, Keith Nobbs, two-time Lortel Award nominee Jeremy Strong, Joyce Van Patten and Erin Wilhelmi

Jamie's (Mr. Strong) life in Brooklyn seems just fine: a beautiful girlfriend (Ms. Goldberg), a budding journalism career, and parents (Ms. Baker and Mr. Friedman) who live just far enough away. But when a possible childhood trauma comes to light, lives are thrown into a tailspin. Unsettling and deeply compassionate, The Great God Pan tells the intimate tale of what is lost and won when a hidden truth is unloosed into the world.

The production features scenic design by Mark Wendland, costume design by Kaye Voyce, lighting design by Japhy Weideman and sound design by Darron L West. Production Stage Manager is Cole P. Bonenberger.
