Rattlestick Extends THROUGH THE YELLOW HOUR Through 11/10

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that the world premiere of Through the Yellow Hour, written and directed by Adam Rapp, will extend through Saturday, November 10, at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place-off Seventh Avenue South, between Perry and West 11 Streets.

The first production of the company's 18th season, Through the Yellow Hour (which was originally scheduled to run through October 28) opened September 27 to strong notices.

Dave Cote of Time Out New York gave the play four stars and wrote "Yellow Hour looks and sounds sensational." And Andy Propst of Back Stage wrote, "It's an exhilarating plunge into the world that Rapp's imagined for his newest play, which, under his direction, sustains the richly ominous atmosphere for all of its 100 minutes."

The play's design was singled out by Jennifer Farrar of the Associated Press: "The design team has created a credible, claustrophobic atmosphere of embattled urban unease, with a constant undercurrent of automatic weapons fire and explosions, eerie lighting, and distant shouts and cries signaling never-ending unrest." And the design was also praised by David Barbour of Lighting & Sound America who called the play "Rapp's most powerful work in some time."

In Through the Yellow Hour, the United States has been attacked. Men are being castrated, women enumerated. Ellen has been in hiding for 52 days, subsisting on very little, hoping against hope for her husband to return. As the world around her falls further into senseless chaos, she takes an unlikely action, one that just might signal a new beginning.

The cast of Through the Yellow Hour is Hani Furstenberg, Brian Mendes, Matt Pilieci, Danielle Slavick, Alok Tewari, Joanne Tucker, and Vladimir Versailles.

The creative team features Andromache Chalfant (scenic design), Jessica Pabst (costume design), Keith Parham (lighting design), Christian Frederickson (sound design), and Andrew Diaz (properties). Michael Denis is production stage manager and Lori Singleton is assistant stage manager.
