SISTAS: THE MUSICAL Receives Five Audelco Award Nominations On One-Year Anniversary

Sistas: The Musical is celebrating the one year milestone at St. Luke's Theatre, and now cast and crew have another reason to celebrate – the play was nominated for five 2012 Audelco Awards; Best Director, Best Ensemble, Best Choreographer, Outstanding Musical Director and Best Musical Production of the Year. The Audelco Awards will be presented on Monday, November 19th.

Audiences were first introduced to Sistas: The Musical, when it debuted at The Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival in summer of 2011 and walked away with several MITF Award nominations. Written by Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Dorothy Marcic, the play has become a fan favorite, with repeat audience attendance, a frequent occurrence.

Sorority groups, church groups, and student groups, from as far away as California and Texas, have made Sistas a required part of their visit to the Big Apple. One reason, they say, is the story, which centers around the bonds of love in one African American family, and the legacy that made them strong. Another is the music.

Sistas uses a playlist of 30-plus, appropriately selected songs that span a one hundred year history. These songs, made famous by artists that include Billie Holiday, Lena Horn, Erykah Badu, JillScott, and Mary J. Blige, are woven into the storyline and become an extension of the characters' dialogue.

Playwright, Dr. Dorothy Marcic, has mastered the art of story telling as a musical journey and has brought audiences a little slice of heaven with this one. One critic wrote, "Sistas is a triumphant testament to thewonders of womanhood, the friendship in family and the universal sweetness of sisterhood."

Sistas: The Musical is currently playing at St Luke's Theatre, Saturdays and Sundays at 4:30pm. Running Time: 90 minutes, without intermission.

St. Lukes Playhouse is located at 308 West 46th Street (between 8th & 9th Avenues). Call (212) 246-8140 or tickets are also available online at www.Telecharge.com. Ticket prices start at $39.50-$69.50. Special group discount rates are available by calling – (212) 977-5925.
