Signature Extends Albee's 'Occupant' Due To Ticket Demand

Signature Theatre Company (James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director) announced today that their world premiere production of Edward Albee'S OCCUPANT starring Tony(r) and Academy Award(r)-winning actress Mercedes Ruehl and two-time Emmy(r) winner and Tony(r) nominee Larry Bryggman sold out its initial 8-week run in three days, one month before performances are scheduled to begin. Directed by Pam Mackinnon, the limited engagement has been extended by popular demand one week from Sunday, June 29th to Sunday, July 6th.

Edward Albee'S OCCUPANT, currently in rehearsals, begins performances on Tuesday, May 6th and officially opens on Thursday, June 5th at The Peter Norton Space located at 555 West 42nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues).

Tickets for the extension week (July 1st - 6th) will be $65. Through the Signature Ticket Initiative, all regularly-priced tickets ($65) are
available for $20 for the initial 8-week run of each production through Signature's 20th Anniversary Season (2010-2011).  The Signature Ticket Initiative seeks to make great theatre accessible to the broadest possible audience and is made possible by the lead sponsorship of Time Warner Inc.  Generous support for The Signature Ticket Initiative is provided by Margot Adams, in memory of Mason Adams.

Tickets are available on Signature's website at www.signaturetheatre.org , by phone at (212) 244-PLAY (7529) and in person at the Box Office at 555 West 42nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues).

Signature Theatre Company caps off its 2007-2008 season with a Legacy Production as part of its Premiere Series, which presents new work by former Playwrights-in-Residence.  Edward Albee'S OCCUPANT is a portrait of acclaimed sculptor Louise Nevelson and a quest to capture a charismatic and complex artist and persona.  What is the relationship between creator and creation?  Who was Louise Nevelson?  Only she knew.

Sets are designed by Christine Jones with Costumes by Jane Greenwood and Lights by David Lander.
