The Attic Theatre Co Presents DARK RAPTURE 1/22-2/6

The Attic Theatre company, an emerging ensemble in their fourth season, proudly presents Dark Rapture by Eric Overmyer. Directed by Laura Braza (Company Manager, Keen Company; Director/Teacher at Pius XI Theater Lab), Eric Overmyer's noir thriller returns to New York City for a limited engagement January 22 - February 6, 2010.

"Like many noir fictions, Dark Rapture is about escape: from the self, from the sane, from the ordinary. This time the escape hatch is offered by a fire that leaves the Berkeley Hills home of Ray and Julia Gaines a pile of smoldering rubble with a charred and unrecognizable corpse beneath it. Whose corpse is it: Ray's, or a looter's? Just where was Julia when the house burned down? And what happened to the brown-paper parcel Julia says she left in Ray's custody? Did it go up in flames, too, with or without him? Any number of sinister people wants to know. In classic noir manner, the story advances tableau by moody tableau from Baja bedroom to Key West bar deck to Tampa kitchenette, each offering its sharply etched character cameo, its fragment of information, its new complication, straight to a conclusion redolent with irony...." ~Roger Downey, American Theater.

The Attic Theatre Company ("the instinct for theatrical spectacle is right on target," - Jason Jacobs, nytheatre.com, Behold! The Bowery, FringeNYC 2009) is a collective of theatre artists dedicated to examining the complicated nature of American identity. Dark Rapture features a cast made up of ensemble members and emerging actors, including: Ted Caine, Victoria Dicce* (Mourning Lilly, Happy Girl, and Edward Allen Baker's Lila on the Wall, The Collective, Founding member), Rich Dreher*, Sam Gooley (Dream Wedding, Manhattan Rep), Monica Hammond, Michael F. McGuirk* (An Evening at the Carlyle, The Algonquin Theater), Thomas Matthews, Daniel O'Shae (Harold Pinter's Old Times, HB Ensemble Co), Nicole Pacent (Mosheh, South Wing Theatre Co. at HERE; We Are Destroyed, Galapagos Arts Space) and Sarah Stevens (Drunk, Naked Angels: Naked from the Vault).

Dark Rapture is Directed by The Attic Theatre Company's Artistic Director Laura Braza and produced by The Attic Theatre Company. Costume Design is by Franny Bohar (Asst. Designer, Creature with New Georges and Page 73 Productions), Scenic Design is by Julia Noulin-Merat (Commonwealth Opera, Hangar Theatre), Lighting Design is by Ben Pilat (Los Angeles Ballet, Commonwealth Opera), Sound Design is by Anthony Spinelli and the Stage Manager is Lizz Giorgos (Blue Man Group).

The Attic Theatre Company's Dark Rapture opens Friday, January 22 and continues Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays 3pm (no Sat matinee performance 1/30) through February 6th. All performances take place at The Connelly Theater, located at 220 East 4th Street (between Avenues A and B) New York, NY 10003. Take the F train to 2nd Avenue/Lower East Side.

The Attic Theater Company produces plays by living American Playwrights that examine the complicated nature of American identity. The Attic is a company comprised of young actors, directors, and designers that do not identify with the label of the "apathetic" generation, and seek to bridge the gap between the way many have labeled their generation and the way they see themselves. Now in its fourth season, the Attic has produced plays such as the world premiere of Behold! The Bowery by Dan Pfau, Moonchildren by Michael Weller, and Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad, by Arthur Kopit. They also work to support other young artists in the community, curating a concert series twice a year called Static in the Attic, which brings new audiences to up-and-coming musicians.
