The Tony Award-winning Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) has announced a
two-week extension of its new musical The
Slug Bearers of Kayrol
Island (Or, The Friends
of Dr. Rushower) with libretto and drawings by Ben Katchor and music
composed by Mark Mulcahy, now set to play through March 16.
Originally scheduled through March 2, The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island extends through March 16, due to
strong ticket sales and on the strength of reviews that praise the musical,
which features noted cartoonist Ben Katchor's drawings as an animated background
for a story set in and around Manhattan and on a tropical island of exploited
factory workers. The critics had praise, too, for the musical's score by
indie-rock composer Mark Mulcahy.
Directed by Bob McGrath, The
Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island features an ensemble cast led by Tony-Award
nominee Peter Friedman (Ragtime)
Bobby Steggert (110 in the Shade),
Stephen Lee Anderson (Footloose), Tom
Riis Farrell (Coram Boy), Jody
Flader, Matt Pearson and Will Swensen.
The production features choreography by John Carrafa (Urinetown); set and projections by Jim
Findlay and Jeff Sugg; costume design by Mattie Ullrich; lighting design by
Russell H. Champa; sound design by David Arnold and Brett Jarvis; choreography
by John Carrafa (Urinetown), and
musical direction by Erik James.
Now scheduled through March 16, performances of The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island
(Or, The Friends of Dr. Rushower) run Tuesdays at 7pm, Wednesdays-Saturdays
at 8pm, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3pm.
Tickets are $60; 2 hours prior to curtain, students may
purchase any available seats for $20 each. Valid student ID required; limit 2
tickets per ID. For reservations and additional information about Vineyard
