Due to extensive power outages in downtown Manhattan as a result of the hurricane, Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St. in Union Square) is cancelling performances of its world-premiere production of CHECKERS until further notice, starting this evening, Tuesday, October 30.

Originally set to open on Wednesday, October 31, the production's new opening date will be announced along with the resumption of performances.

According to Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell, The Vineyard's Executive Producer, "Along with countless other New Yorkers, we are assessing the aftermath of the storm and working with colleagues in the neighborhood to determine when power will be restored and when performances can resume on our stage. We appreciate everyone's resilience and understanding under these exceptional circumstances."

CHECKERS -- a new play by Douglas McGrath about Richard and Pat Nixon and his landmark Checkers speech in 1952 -- is the first play of the 30th anniversary season at Vineyard Theatre.

Directed by Terry Kinney, the cast of CHECKERS includes Kelly Coffield Park, Kathryn Erbe, Joel Marsh Garland, Anthony LaPaglia, Kevin O'Rourke, John Ottovino, Mark Shanahan, Lewis J. Stadlen and Robert Stanton.
