WATER BY THE SPOONFUL Extends Through Feb 10 at Second Stage Theatre

WATER-BY-THE-SPOONFUL-20010101

Due to critical acclaim and strong ticket sales, the Second Stage Theatre's production of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize-Winning drama Water by the Spoonful, written by Quiara Alegría Hudes and directed by Davis McCallum, will extend two weeks through February 10th at Second Stage Theatre (305 W 43rd Street). Second Stage's next production, Jason Robert Brown's THE LAST FIVE YEARS, will begin previews on March 7.

WATER BY THE SPOONFUL stars Liza Colón-Zayas, Frankie R. Faison, Zabryna Guevara. Bill Heck, Sue Jean Kim, Armando Riesco and Ryan Shams.

"I am incredibly proud of this production and am thrilled that we are able to extend for two more weeks," said Artistic Director Carole Rothman. "Quiara is one of the strongest new playwrights to emerge in the past decade and I am very happy that audiences will have more opportunity to experience the rich characters and singular world she has created with this play."

Elliot returns home to Philadelphia to reconnect with his Puerto Rican family after his time spent serving in Iraq. Upon arriving, he finds his family in flux and his career prospects limited. When an online support group begins to overshadow his aspirations for the future, the real and online worlds - one forged by blood, another by survival - collide in this funny, urgent and timely 2012 Pulitzer Prize winner.

WATER BY THE SPOONFUL is the second in a trilogy of plays that began with Hudes' Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue, a play about a young Marine coming to terms with his time in Iraq and his father's and grandfather's service in Vietnam and Korea. The third play in the trilogy, The Happiest Song Plays Last, is scheduled to make its world premiere in April at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago.

WATER BY THE SPOONFUL has scenic design by Neil Patel, costume design by ESosa, lighting design by Russell Champa, sound design by Josh Schmidt, and projection design by Aaron Rhyne.

WATER BY THE SPOONFUL will be performed through Sunday, February 10, 2013 on the following schedule: Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday - Saturday at 8pm, Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm.
