D'Abruzzo And Barnes Star In Industry Reading Of THE MUMBLINGS 4/19

New play THE MUMBLINGS by Dan Kitrosser will receive an industry reading April 19th. The reading will be directed by Jess Chayes and starring Tony Nominee Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Avenue Q) and David Wilson Barnes (Becky Shaw).

THE MUMBLINGS was workshopped last January, at American Place Theatre through Working Man's Clothes Bootleg Series, where it was directed by May Adrales and starred Alexis McGuinness and Ben Beckley.

"He hates being gay. She hates having sex. It's a perfect marriage."

The MUMBLINGS is a two-actor human comedy about the marriage between a gay man and a straight woman. Allen (David Wilson Barnes), a children's television entertainer, and Jodie (Stephanie D'Abruzzo), an anthropologist of sex and gender, have invited an audience to hear the story of their unique relationship. While playing themselves as well as the other characters in their lives, Allen and Jodie aim to prove that settling is just as good as settling down.

About the team:

Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Jodie and Others) is best known for her Tony nominated performance as Kate Monster and Lucy The Slut in the Tony-winning Broadway musical Avenue Q. In addition to her Tony nomination, she also received a Theatre World Award, and a special Outstanding Ensemble & Puppet Artistry Award from the Outer Critics Circle, as well as a 2003 Drama Desk nomination for her work in Avenue Q's Off-Broadway run. She has also graced the New York stage in Don't Say Another Word, Plaisir D'Amour, Austentatious, Kiss and Makeup, I Love You Because, Carnival, Encores! 10th Anniversary Bash, and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Other Story Books. She has also participated in dozens of staged readings and workshops, including the very first presentations of Avenue Q. Outside of New York, her credits include [title of show] at St. Louis Rep and two benefit performances of The Guys in Lakeland, Florida. In May 2010 she will play Trixie in the World Premiere of Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical at the Kennedy Center's Family Theatre. Her vocal performances are preserved on the Grammy nominated Avenue Q Original Cast Recording, as well as the recording of I Love You Because. She is also featured on the live digital album, Avenue Q Swings, benefitting Topia Arts Center in Adams, MA.

Dan Kitrosser (Writer) is a writer, actor and storyteller. Dan is the resident storyteller for both Central Park and Bryant Park. His plays and musicals include The Legend of Ichabod Crane (Village Voice Halloween Pick, dir. Edward Elefterion, Brooklyn Lyceum), Blizzard the Wizard (dir. Frances Hill, Urban Stages), Night of the Butterfly (dir. Isaac Byrne, 45 Bleecker Theater), and On the Way to My Abortion (dir. Andrew Davies, upcoming at The Ohio). His play be here now won the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Festival in 2001 and he has written the screenplays for Old Days (starring Mary Beth Peil, Brad Oscar and Helen Hanft, Winner, 2009 Big Apple Film Festival - Best Short) and Bodybuilder Island (starring a bunch of bodybuilders). Dan is a resident actor for Rabbit Hole Ensemble and teaches creative writing at Writopia Lab, a non-profit writers workshop for teens in Manhattan.


Jess Chayes (Director) is co-artistic director of The Assembly and a freelance director and producer. With The Assembly, she has co-created and directed six original works that have been seen at such venues as The Brick Theater, The Ontological Theater, UNDER St. Marks, The Abingdon Theater, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Fringe First Nomination). Most recently, The Assembly's The Three Sisters transferred to The Cherry Pit after a sold-out run at The Red Room. Other recent projects include We Men of Science (Network One-Acts Festival, Semifinalist), A Wrench in the Blood of the Sea (The Public's 2008 Emerging Writers Group) and The Sister (reading, The Public Theater). She has assisted Dan Rothenberg (Enjoy, The Play Company), Niegel Smith (We Declare You a Terrorist, SPF), and Steve Cosson (The Civilians' Paris Commune, The Public Theater). She is a New Georges affiliated artist and a founding member of their new multi-disciplinary artists lab, The Jam. B.A., Wesleyan University.
