Though now they are more known for their psychedelic-era albums and singles, The Moody Blues began as one of the better R&B based combos of the British Invasion. Based in Birmingham, England, The Moody Blues made their debut in May 1963. However, it wasn’t until their second single “Go Now”, release in November 1964, that they reached number one in England and began to get some recognition. They had trouble following it up and financial issues soon had them becoming part of the project to make a rock version of Dvorak’s New World Symphony. The project was a success and though it initially puzzled the record company, the album became responsible for putting The Moody Blues on the charts in America in 1969.
The Moody Blues recently completed dates in South Africa, in Capetown, S.A., and in Johannesburg, S.A.; in addition to a 32-city U.S. tour across the east coast this past March and April, which was named one of the Top 20 grossing tours this year by Pollstar Magazine. Their classic hit song “Nights In White Satin” was also featured in this year’s movie “Dark Shadows” starring Johnny Depp.
