My Name Is Asher Lev star and veteran Broadway actor Mark Nelson has been chosen as a recipient of the 2013 Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship, it was announced by the Ten Chimneys Foundation.
From July 21 to 28, Academy Award nominee, six-time Golden Globe winner, and five-time Emmy Award winner Alan Alda will lead a group of ten Fellows chosen from around the U.S. This year's conference will explore the subject of spontaneity on stage, in a master class and retreat on the grounds and within the inspirational rooms of Ten Chimneys, the National Historic Landmark estate of Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in Genesee Depot, Wisconsin.
"The Fellowship is a wonderful honor," said Mark Nelson. "I'm especially thrilled that Alan Alda will be guiding the work. I've admired him for as long as I can remember."
Since its inception in 2009, the Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program has brought the nation's top regional theatre actors to Ten Chimneys to work with a renowned master teacher. Past master teachers include Lynn Redgrave, Olympia Dukakis, Joel Grey, and director Barry Edelstein.
Ten Chimneys Foundation selected Mark Nelson and nine other actors from the nominees submitted by the partner regional theaters. Nelson was nominated by The Cleveland Play House, where he gave an acclaimed solo performance in I Am My Own Wife, by Doug Wright.
The other Lunt-Fontanne Fellows for 2013 are: David Alan Anderson, David Breitbarth, Kandis Chappell, George Dvorsky, Robin Goodrin Nordli, Sharon Lawrence, Kathleen McCall, Dee Nelson and Andrew Philpot.
Mark Nelson's credits include: Timon of Athens (The Public Theater); Shylock in The Merchant of Venice (Shakespeare Theatre Company, D.C.); The Bridge Project (BAM and world tour); I Am My Own Wife (Carbonell Award); and the title role in Uncle Vanya (Bartlett Sher, director). Broadway: The Invention of Love (Lincoln Center); After the Fall, Three Sisters (Roundabout); A Few Good Men. He played Einstein in Steve Martin's Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Obie Award). He teaches at Princeton.
