the side project Kicks Off 2013-14 Season Today with IT COMES IN Festival

In its 2013-14 season of nine shows, the side project continues its drive to create world premiere collaborations. Artistic Director Adam Webster says, 'We are thrilled to present a world premiere from renowned playwright Kathleen Tolan (Goodman Theatre's Memory House), as well as continue the relationship we have with NY-based playwright Daniel Talbott, whose play Slipping we world premiered in 2008, and which was subsequently shortlisted for the 2010 Lambda Award, along with The Brother/Sister Plays. Further, we are excited to team up with Tympanic Theatre Company for our first co-production, Sandalwood.' Tympanic's last co-production was Scott Barsotti's Brewed.

Rogers Park Theatres Offer $50 Season Flex Pass for 2013-14 Season

Rogers Park-area theatres Lifeline Theatre, Raven Theatre, the side project, and Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre join with returning member BoHo Theatre for a sixth year to offer a flexible subscription pass to see a variety of Rogers Park productions throughout the season, running from September 1, 2013 to August 31, 2014. Dubbed "Chicago's answer to off-Broadway" by the Chicago Sun-Times, the quintet of companies garnered five Non-Equity Jeff Awards out of thirty nominations during the 2012-2013 season and want to share their neighborhood's commitment to excellence with the entire community, by offering this discounted pass with up to 75% savings over regular single tickets.

McCarter Theatre Center has launched its 2013 Sallie B. Goodman Artists' Retreat, which is being held in Princeton through June 19. The ten participating artists are George Brant, Jade King Carroll, Samuel D. Hunter, Ken Ludwig, Emily Mann, Lynn Nottage, Nicole Ari Parker, Heather Raffo, David "Tom" Thompson, and Kathleen Tolan.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present a new production of Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle featuring Christopher Lloyd (Azdak), directed by Brian Kulick (who directed Brecht's Galileo last season), and featuring new music by Tony Award-winning singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). The Caucasian Chalk Circle will begin performances tonight, May 3 at CSC (136 East 13th Street) for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 9. The official opening is Thursday, May 30.

Sometimes we, as human beings, are so trapped between the hurt from our past and the utterly overwhelming nature of how to move forward into our future that we are frozen, locked in place, unable to see a way out of the dark, unable to connect with those we love most. Kathleen Tolan's Memory House captures that moment in time, that frozen moment for mother and daughter Maggie and Katia. It's heartbreaking, real, and even funny in its portrayal of this relationship. Main Street Theater's production is the regional premiere of Memory House.

An age-old tug of war is taking place between a divorced mother and her adopted teenage daughter as the latter struggles to complete her college application essay before the midnight deadline. Their journey down a slippery slope of family memories will cause some emotional bumps and bruises along the way, but ultimately take them to the place where they both need to be.

Lincoln Avenue. Press opening for Illegal Use of Hands is Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $10 - $39.
