As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Award-winning Canadian actress Chilina Kennedy, who made her Broadway debut as 'Mary Magdalene' in Jesus Christ Superstar, has nabbed the title role in Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, the smash hit musical about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter. Kennedy begins performances on March 7, 2015, succeeding Tony Award-winner Jessie Mueller, who will play her final performance in Beautiful later this week on March 6 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd Street). Below, we tribute Mueller's final week of performances with a special flashback of her journey with the show.

Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominee Melissa van der Schyff, accompanied by award-winning jazz pianist and composer Sharon Minemoto, performs an all-new cabaret at The Abbey on February 23 at 8 p.m.

On Sunday night, Beautiful took home the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, and just yesterday, the cast of the Tony Award-winning hit celebrated the show's recent Grammy Award victory on stage at the Sondheim Theatre. Following the sold out performance of Jeremy Jordan's cabaret Breaking Character, The Abbey has announced additional Broadway stars that will be performing in the all-new Broadway Spotlight Series. Two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz will return to The Abbey in March to perform his cabaret Girls, Girls, Girls. Additional performances include Brad Bradley, Melissa van der Schyff, and Paul Anthony Stewart.

The show's casting directors will hold an open call for 'Carole King' at New York City's Ripley Grier Studios (520 Eighth Avenue) today, January 16, 2015 and will also search nationally for Caroles and other cast members for the Broadway, touring and international productions of the smash hit musical.

The cast of the Tony Award-winning hit Beautiful just celebrated the show's one year anniversary with a celebratory curtain call and cake. Since opening on Broadway on January 12, 2014, Beautiful has broken all box office records at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, where it recently became the highest grossing production in the theatre's history. Producers Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music Publishing announced today that Jessie Mueller, who won rave reviews and the 2014 Tony Award for her heartwarming portrayal of Carole King, has extended her contract in Beautiful - The Carole King Musical until March 6, 2015. Her co-stars, Tony Award-nominees Anika Larsen and Jarrod Spector, who play legendary songwriting couple Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, will remain in the show until September 2015.

The dark comedy DOUBTING THOMASON will return to Los Angeles at the Whitmore-Lindley Theatre, 11006 Magnolia Blvd. North Hollywood, Calif. The production opens tonight, September 5th, 2014, and runs Fridays and Saturday through Sept 27th, 2014.
