An evening of four dramatic readings of plays by women will be featured at 'Women, Theater and the Holocaust,' sponsored by Remember the Women Institute in recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom HaShoah.

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis announces a dynamic new set of shows for its 2020-2021 season designed to delight, excite and engage theatregoers like never before.

Urban Movie Channel (UMC) is bringing viewers an exciting yet educational scope of titles in celebration of Black Music Month. Beginning on Friday, June 2, 2017, UMC's Black Music Month collection will include films featuring some of the culture's most prominent and beloved entertainers. Titles from the collection include the Damon Dash production Welcome to Blakroc, the documentary The Industry from Russell Simmons' Hip Hop Speaks Series, and the untold story of the legendary Sugarhill Gang, I Want My Name Back.From documentaries about late hip hop greats Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., and Jam Master Jay;to concert performances from Earth Wind and Fire, Jimi Hendrix, and Unlocking the Truth; and little known stories of black musicians in history such as the enslaved pianist Thomas Greene Bethune and Queen of the Trumpet, Valaida Snow, UMC is the destination for the best of Black Music Month programming.

Rubicon Theatre Company celebrates Black History Month with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF BESSIE SMITH, starring singer and actress Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway production (named one of the 10 Best Off-Broadway productions of the year by the N.Y. Daily Times). Described by CBC as a, "bawdy, bluesy, boozy rollicking night out at the theatre," the show follows the life, loves and career of blues and jazz singer Bessie Smith, called the "Empress of the Blues."

Triple threat bandleader BRIA SKONBERG will be showcasing her trumpet, vocal and compositional talents at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Sunday March 30th. In 2013 she earned a Jazz Journalists' Association nomination for "Up and Coming Jazz Artist of The Year" and is included in DOWNBEAT Magazine's Rising Star Critics' Poll. She has recently been honored with a New York Bistro Award for "Outstanding Jazz Artist". Best known for her knowledge of classic jazz and instigative nature, she is creating an adventurous style rooted in New Orleans jazz and blues, pop, soul and cabaret. One review states, 'I was kind of thinking Norah Jones, Diana Krall but with a dose of the bubbly.'

Fiddlehead Theatre Company announces two talkbacks during the run of A Little Princess, Fiddlehead's first production as Resident Company at Boston's historic Strand Theatre (543 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA). A Little Princess will run from November 21 -December 8, 2013, and will feature two appearances by the creative team behind A Little Princess: Composer Andrew Lippa will provide a talkback on Friday, November 29 hosted by WGBH's Jared Bowen, and playwright Brian Crawley will take the stage on Friday, December 6. Both sessions are free for ticket-holders, who are invited to stay after the performance to participate in an audience Q&A. These events are perfect for theater students, educators, drama departments, and fans of musical theater. With a score by Jeanine Tesori ('Caroline or Change' 'Thoroughly Modern Millie') and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley, 'Violet' is directed by Bailiwick Artistic Advisor Elizabeth Margolius. The press night is Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Angelo Parra's The Devil's Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith will be performed at the New Brunswick Playhouse, running March 3?29. Miche Braden, who portrayed Bessie Smith in the previous productions of the play, will recreate the title role once more.
